An altercation that left one man stabbed ended in gunshots early Sunday morning in Elmont.
According to police, at 12:50 a.m., three male victims were walking on 109th Avenue when they were approached by five male subjects. The groups engaged in conversation at which time, several of the subjects produced knives and slashed the victims about the face and head, police said. One of the victims, 17, was also stabbed in the lower back, according to police.
As the victims fled the scene on foot, they heard several gunshots ring out from an unknown direction. When they arrived at one victim's home, police were called.
The man who was stabbed in the back was taken to Mercy Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. The other two victims, ages 18 and 21, were taken to Franklin Hospital Medical Center, where they were treated for injuries.

Nassau County Police report that residents of Guilford Court in West Hempstead awoke to find three armed subjects in their home on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 6:30 a.m.
According to police, the masked men demanded money from the homeowner who complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of currency and jewelry. The men then used duct tape to detain the family and fled in an unknown direction, police said.
The family was able to free themselves and call police. No one was injured during the incident.
