In celebration of Women's History Month, a well respected member of the Elmont community was honored at the seventh annual Women's Trailblazer in the New Millennium ceremony.

Legislator John Ciotti presents a citation to Mabel Johnston. Also pictured is daughter-in-law Valerie, son Ian and Lloyd Johnston.

Mabel Johnston was named a trailblazer by Nassau County Legislator John Ciotti for her hard work and dedication. Mabel is a the Elmont community organizer for Gateway Youth Outreach and is also involved with the Catholic Campaign Human Development Board of Antipoverty Projects, Saint Vincent DePaul as a volunteer helping the poor and needy and the Elmont Quality of Life Committee. She also served as the committee organizer for the Welcome to Elmont Committee and is on the advisory panel for the Elmont Community Awareness Program.

In July 2003, Mabel was also an honoree in Assemblyman Alfano's first ever Women of Distinction ceremony.
