The first annual Elmont Online-ECAP Black History Month celebration is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 29 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Clara H. Carlson School, 235 Belmont Blvd. in Elmont.
The afternoon will feature performance by the Elmont Memorial High School Gospel Choir, Valley Stream Baptist Church Choirs, Elmont Elementary School District Jazz Band, Sewanhaka High School Dramatic Readings and the Voices of Unity Gospel Choir of SUNY New Paltz.
Works of prominent African-American artists, authentic slave trading documents and artifacts from Africa and the United States dating back to the 1800s will also be on display.
The Elmont Online-ECAP Dr. Carter G. Woodson Black History Month Award will also be presented.
State of Elmont Meeting Feb. 26
On Thursday, Feb. 26, the Elmont Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual State of Elmont meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 60 Hill Place.
