The Nassau County Police Fifth Squad is investigating two robberies that occurred in Elmont on Sunday, Jan. 18.
According to detectives, the pastor of the United House of Prayer for All People, located on South Road in Jamaica, Queens was robbed of proceeds from a fund-raiser outside of his home on Holland Avenue at 2:45 a.m.
According to police, the pastor had returned home with his wife after a fund-raiser at the church. As the two were exiting their car in front of the house, an unknown male subject approached the victim from behind, thrust a hard metal object into his back and demanded money.
A struggle ensued during which the victim's hand was cut on a knife the subject was carrying, police said. The victim dropped a large envelope containing proceeds from the fund-raiser which the subject grabbed before fleeing onto Blackstone Avenue, where he was last seen entering a gray Acura or Nissan Altima with a Florida registration, police said.
The victim refused medical attention for the injury to his hand. The subject is being described as a black male, possibly in his 20s, 6'4'', 220 lbs., wearing dark clothing and a dark hat.
In a separate incident, police are also investigating a robbery that occurred at Blockbuster Video at 1545 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont.
According to police, a subject entered the store and filled a bag with approximately 50 DVDs valued at $2,500, police said.
According to police, the assistant manager recognized the subject from a previous grand larceny and attempted to stop him. The subject pushed through the store and was able to flee the store on foot, police said. He was last seen heading southbound on Lincoln Road.
There were no injuries reported.
