Appearing lately in the Nassau County Police 5th Precinct Police Report are incidents in which headlight assemblies are being stolen from Nissan Maximas. The latest instances occurred on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 4:35 a.m. on Emily Avenue in Elmont and Shipley Avenue in Valley Stream.
According to police, this is not only a problem in the 5th Precinct but also in Nassau County and New York City. The headlight assemblies apparently are hot items.
According to police, the front of the car has to be damaged in order to remove the headlight assemblies. The late model Nissan Maximas such as 2002 and 2003 models appear to be the victims. These cars are equipped with special headlights. Nassau Police are attempting to identify various outlets where these headlights are sold.
If anyone owns a Nissan Maxima and sees a suspicious person near their car, they can call 911 so that a police officer can be dispatched.
