The Elmont Memorial High School varsity girls lacrosse team recently received a New York State Assembly Citation award for outstanding academic and athletic achievement and sportsmanship from Assemblyman Tom Alfano.
Alfano joined with Elmont Principal Al Harper in acknowledging the team for their outstanding academic achievements in the classroom as well as capturing the school's first undefeated conference championship in girls lacrosse.
"This lacrosse team was recently recognized as a scholar athlete team by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association because the overall grade point average on the team is an outstanding 94.21. Elmont is extremely proud of their collective efforts and recognizes that these student athletes are indeed excellent role models for the Elmont youngsters," said Principal Harper.
Assemblyman Alfano was particularly impressed with the senior lady laxers' choices in the colleges, which include Binghamton, Dartmouth, Brown, Syracuse and New York University.
