Assemblyman Tom Alfano announced that he has been successful in getting NYU's College of Dentistry to sponsor with him a free dental clinic for children in his assembly district. Alfano was able to get the free clinic to come to his assembly district after meeting with the dental school in Albany as part of a series of health initiatives he is attaining for the 21st Assembly District.
"This is a very exciting program for our community," said Alfano, adding, "I'm so pleased that NYU College of Dentistry is working with me to make this special service available for our children." Alfano is coordinating the effort with Gateway Youth Outreach and the Elmont Union Free School District. The clinic is open to all children in Alfano's 21st Assembly District.
Pat Boyle, director of Gateway Youth Outreach said, "This is a great service for kids to take advantage of. The clinic is free and costs nothing to the family. All they have to do is set up an appointment and the rest is left to NYU and its dental team.
Alfano was able to set up the clinic on Monday, July 28 through Thursday, July 31 and Aug. 4 through Aug. 7 at the Gotham Avenue School on Gotham Avenue in Elmont. To make an appointment to use the service, call Alfano's office at 437-5577. All necessary documentation will be completed at that time.
Dr. Maria Palandra, Superintendent of the Elmont Union Free School district, said, "I'm really pleased that Gotham Avenue School has been chosen by NYU and Assemblyman Alfano for this clinic. I look forward to seeing this program make a difference for our children."
The dental clinic is a first for Nassau County. The comprehensive dental service will provide: Diagnostic, preventative and restorative treatments such as X-rays, study models, cleaning, fluoride treatments, sealants, fillings, minor tooth extractions, tooth-brushing clinic.
All children are eligible to participate in this program, regardless of their financial status. You don't need health insurance and the service is free," said Alfano, concluding, "everybody should take advantage of this opportunity."
