Police have arrested a 42-year-old Queens Village man in connection with four bank robberies committed in Franklin Square since February and charged him with four counts of Robbery 3rd degree.
According to police, at approximately 2:25 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6, a male subject entered Citibank, located at 1060 Hempstead Turnpike in Franklin Square, handed a teller a note, made verbal threats announcing a robbery and demanded money. The teller complied and gave the subject an unknown amount of US currency. According to police, no weapon was produced during the incident and no one was injured.
The subject was described as a black male, about six feet tall, about 40-years-old with a thin build.
Then on February 18, at 10 a.m., police said a subject entered a Citibank at 925 Hempstead Turnpike, approached the teller and handed a note demanding cash. After taking an undetermined amount of cash, the subject then fled the bank through the front door, police said. There were no injuries at the time of the alleged robbery to the one customer and nine employees who were present at the time.
On February 26, at 10:20 a.m., a subject entered Ridgewood Savings Bank at 1010 Hempstead Turnpike and gave the teller a note demanding money, police said. The teller handed the subject an undisclosed amount of currency before the subject walked out the rear door and fled in an unknown direction, police said. No weapon was displayed and no injuries were reported, according to police.
The final alleged robbery came on Friday morning, March 7, when, at approximately 9:35 a.m., a subject entered the Citibank branch, located at 925 Hempstead Turnpike, and handed the teller a note demanding money. The teller gave the subject an unspecified amount of money, according to police. The subject then exited the bank onto Hempstead Turnpike and fled in an unknown direction, police said.
At the time of the alleged robbery, there were no customers in the bank and eight employees. No one was injured during the incident and no gun was produced.
On March 12, as a result of extensive robbery prevention detail in Franklin Square, police arrested the subject for the four alleged bank robberies.
According to police, the suspect was observed looked into the Citibank at 1060 Hempstead Turnpike. He then walked towards the Ridgewood Bank at 1010 Hempstead Turnpike but was stopped by the arresting officers at 9:25 a.m. in front of 1040 Hempstead Turnpike, police said.
Police said it appeared the suspect was in the process of committing another bank robbery but was apprehended before he got a chance. Police said they found a note in the subject's pocket that allegedly would have been presented to the teller in the next robbery.
