The Tri-M Music Honor Society (Modern Music Masters), of Cary High School, was held recently in the school's Little Theater.

There was a strict criteria to become a member or a renewing member. A new member must have an overall GPA of at least 85, teacher recommendations and a musical accomplishment, such as participation in NYSSMA or the All-County Music Festival. For a renewing membership, they must also have a certain GPA and two units of musical service, such as free tutoring or service at junior high concerts. The induction includes talented musicians from all three senior level performing ensembles - band, orchestra or chorus. Among continuing members were Regina Musicaro, Halina Panariello, Karina Okoro and Nicole Lean.

"The Tri-M Music Honor Society provides recognition to all of our talented students for their excellent work in music," said music chairperson Marilyn Engel.

The ceremony started with music played by talented cellist, senior Phil Ascher. The new officers who were inducted are: President Katie Malone; Co-Vice presidents Louis Dura and Kate Stein; Secretary Jami Unger; Treasurer Caitlin Gorta and Historians Emilia Femia and Carol Lee.

There were 12 new inductees who participate in a luminous candle ceremony and received a pin with the Tri-M symbol. Among the new members were Dan Spitaliere, Deborah Choi, Jessica Balestrieri, Kristen Brennan, Zach Siegel and Mike Catrone. The orchestra ensemble, under the direction of Jeff Brous, played a wonderful piece Entrance of the Queen of Sheba. Talented performers were Stephanie Mitchell, Jessi Kalny and Jennifer Lee. Ed Canova, Rob Pontecorvo, Terry Rolla and Dr. Steve Weissman were inducted as honorary members.

After the ceremony, there was a reception held in the orchestra room.
