Hempstead Town Supervisor Rich Guardino and Councilman Joseph Kearney announced that the town is providing a $1,000 grant to the West Hempstead Auxiliary Police Unit. The grant will be used for recruitment, equipment and training.

"The Auxiliary Police play an important role in maintaining peace and order, promoting safety and protecting the general welfare of our community," said Guardino. "The Town of Hempstead is pleased to support the West Hempstead Auxiliary Police, whose members help protect the quality of life we all enjoy here in the Town of Hempstead."

"The West Hempstead Auxiliary Police serves as the eyes and ears of the Nassau County Police Department. They are also responsible for crowd control, traffic control and providing crossing guards," said Kearney. "The work of the auxiliary police frees the Nassau County Police Department to concentrate on the other aspects of police work, which includes maintaining order and protecting the lives and property of our citizens."
