The Women's Club of Franklin Square welcomed all members and guests to our first meeting, the "Getting to Know You" luncheon on Sept. 9. Members once again set up a gourmet table. Everything was delicious. Thank you members for a real treat. Also thanks to Mickey Hesselbach and Joan Burger for coordinating the luncheon.

We always meet the second Monday of each month at the VFW Hall on Lincoln Road at noon. Meeting was called to order, Pledge of Allegiance was recited and we sang America the Beautiful. In memory of 9/11 tragedy, all the victims and families we shared with heartfelt sympathy and a moment of silence.

Invocation was read by Norma Snedeker and she then read our correspondence. Emily VanDamm, our treasurer, is ill and she cannot be with us today but she has our get well wishes. The only expenditure over the summer was the printing of our blue membership book. Emily will give us her report at the next meeting.

Ann Puglisi, 1st vice president announced that Beatrice Nechin, radio talk show host for seniors, Young at Heart, would be with us today to answer questions on senior concerns. She also has a new program for seniors to explain to us. Estelle Quednau, 2nd vice president reported that she has started to work on the November and raffle, Student Scholarships fund-raiser. She had letters for our members to present to merchants who we hope will donate prizes for this worthy cause. Helen Linehan, our Lucky Buck chairperson presented three winners from the drawings.

At the October meeting we will be celebrating our 55th anniversary with a catered Chinese luncheon. Ann Puglisi will call some members to help coordinate this celebration. We will honor past presidents.

Meeting was adjourned for lunch and social. Beatrice Nechin set up a table and explained the new program for seniors funded by the state. Some members signed up. Thanks to Beatrice and all whom make this meeting a pleasure.

Hope to see you all on Oct. 14 for our 55th anniversary.
