Searching for work and searching for new employees is rarely a pleasurable task but the Town of Hempstead is making it easier for our residents and local businesses with the HempsteadWorks Career Center.
The HempsteadWorks Career Center, a service of the Town of Hempstead Workforce Investment Board, is a full service one-stop center that meets the needs of employers and job seekers. The mission of the center is to ensure that skilled workers are available to employers and to help job seekers find work and thereby fostering economic development.
The HempsteadWorks Career Center includes a spacious, modern resource room where customers can obtain career counseling; referrals; information related to the job market, child care, transportation, financial assistance and more. In addition the center features a computerized job bank, Internet access, resume writing and cover letter software, job search videos and CD-Roms, as well as photocopiers, telephones and fax machines. The center also includes a career library, assessment software programs and on-site interviews with employers.
HempsteadWorks also funds education and training programs and job search workshops related to resumes, cover letters, interviewing skills, the modern workplace, hi-tech job searches, salary negotiations, new job transition, job retention, self-esteem and self-confidence in the job search.
Employers are provided with space in the center in which to conduct interviews. They can also use center resources to recruit employees, apply for funds to train new and current workers, apply for tax credits and more.
