Florence E. Carway (Renzi), a resident of Franklin Square for over 50 years, died on June 6, 2002. She received her teacher's license from Jamaica Training School in 1931 and earned her bachelor of science and master's degrees from NYU.
Mrs. Carway's 40-year teaching career began at St. Raymond's Parochial School in Lynbrook in 1930. She also taught at Belmont Blvd. School, Elmont, Baldwin Plaza and Coolidge Schools in Baldwin and the Monroe St. School in Franklin Square. She taught at the Marian Delaney (Eagle Ave.) School in West Hempstead from 1956 until her retirement in 1970. She was an active community worker. Mrs. Carway was founder and organizer of the Woman's Club of Franklin Square in 1947, past president for five years and the club's historian for many years, life trustee and publicity chairperson for the Franklin Square Historical Society, was active in the St. Catherine's Christian Mothers (charter member), Catholic Daughters of America, Franklin Square Town Fair and the Franklin Square Beautification Committee. In 1955, she was selected Franklin Square's Citizen of the Year by the Historical Society.
Mrs. Carway is survived by her son, John Carway of Mineola; her daughter, Pat Farrell of Brewster, MA; daughter-in-law, Jackie Carway; son-in-law, Ed Farrell; and her grandchildren, Jacqueline and Brian Carway and Corinne Farrell.
Arrangements were made by the Franklin Funeral Home. Funeral Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna RC Church. Donations can be made to the Franklin Square Historical Society Building Fund.
Frank Campo, of Elmont, died on June 7, 2002. Husband of Cecelia. Father of Carol Lee, Janice, Veronica, Kathleen Ann and Roger. Grandmother of eight. Arrangements were made by the Krauss Funeral Home, Franklin Square. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul RC Church. Interment Calverton National Cemetery.
Miriam C. Burrowes, of West Hempstead, died on June 8, 2002. Wife of the late Herbert Spencer Burrowes. Mother of Margaret Stephanak, Kevin and Jane Gale. Sister of Elizabeth Swiger. Grandmother of eight. Great-grandmother of one. Arrangements were made by the Fullerton Funeral Home, Baldwin. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Redeemer Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery.
