After responding to information gathered from officers on patrol and complaints received from community members, The Nassau County Police Fifth Precinct Problem Oriented Policing Unit, check into eight locations suspected of selling liquor or cigarettes to underage minors. The result was the issuance of tickets to five of the establishments.
According to police, volunteers under the ages of 18 and/or 21 were used to check into reports that certain stores in Elmont and Valley Stream were selling alcohol and/or cigarettes to minors.
On March 15, Sergeant Edward Grim and the officers were able to visit eight locations within the Fifth Precinct with the volunteers They found that the following places sold alcohol and/or cigarettes to minors without asking for or checking for proof of age:
* Sunoco, 66 West Sunrise Highway in Valley Stream
* Raico Deli, 1624 Dutch Broadway in Elmont
* Sunrise Market, 429 Rockaway Avenue in Valley Stream
* KP Foodmart, 20 Meacham Avenue in Elmont
* Monica's Deli, 40 Roosevelt Avenue in Valley Stream.
However, the following places asked the underage volunteers for proof of age, which they did not have and were not sold any alcoholic beverages or cigarettes:
* Dutch Broadway Farms, 1555 Dutch Broadway in Elmont
* D & D Deli, 218 Meacham Avenue in Elmont
* Triple Crown Wine and Liquors, 443 Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont
