We applaud all 19 members of the Nassau County Legislature for their bipartisan letter to State Parks Commissioner Bernadette Castro and Governor Pataki, requesting designation of the wooded Bethpage State Parkway right-of-way as a new 10-mile long Greenbelt Trail State Park.

As members of the L.I. Greenbelt Trail Conference, we also extend special thanks to Legislative Minority Leader Peter Schmitt for his recent column in the Anton Community Newspapers strongly supporting this new state park, and for highlighting the importance to all Nassau County residents of preserving our dwindling open spaces.
