New York State is not a republic. The voters have spoken but the legislature doesn't listen. The redistricting of the assembly is a done deal. Public hearings will be an exercise in futility for the voters. It seem every time we elect a man who works hard for his district, plans projects and activities on a local level, then follows through on those plans, the lines are redrawn. The state legislature seems dissatisfied when assemblymen do their job. As a resident of West Hempstead and a teacher in Elmont, it has been my privilege to see Tom Alfano at work on two fronts. He has served the voters of these diverse communities well. He is the best friend our
schools have ever had. His hands-on approach, visiting and participating in school events is inspirational to students, teachers and parents. The West Hempstead community will miss his good counsel and support. Residents of Elmont should be particularly concerned. As they try so hard to solidify their diverse community, the state legislature seeks to split it. Tom Alfano has worked tirelessly to unite the Elmont community and this is his reward. The legislature should be ashamed.
