Two robberies that occurred last weekend in Elmont have police searching for suspects. The robberies both occurred within six hours of each other on Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
According to police, on Saturday, Feb. 9, at approximately 9:05 p.m., a 45-year-old man, operating a 1997 Toyota 4Runner, was stopped heading eastbound at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and Locustwood Boulevard.
A subject on a BMX bicycle pulled in front of the stopped vehicle and claimed that the victim hit his bicycle. Two additional men, one also riding a BMX bicycle and another on foot, came up to the victim's car and asked for money to compensate for hitting the first subject.
The victim proceeded to drive eastbound and stopped at a deli on Hempstead Turnpike for coffee. When the victim exited the deli, the three subjects were outside, demanding cash. The first subject grabbed the victim in a chokehold while the two remaining subjects stole a cell phone, pager and a gold money clip with an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.
The subjects then fled westbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The victim then entered his Toyota and followed one subject to a Mobil Station on Hempstead Turnpike and Wellington Road. The victim left the car running at a pump while he chased one of the subjects. The second subject saw this and then stole the vehicle and drove Westbound on Hempstead Turnpike. The victim was unable to catch the two remaining subjects. There were no injuries reported.
Then at 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10, three males approached a man and a woman in front of a location on Schenck Boulevard.
Police said the suspects began attacking the female in a concerted effort to take her pocketbook. The female victim, while making every effort to cling to her pocketbook, was punched in the face and shoved to the ground. The male victim attempted to come to her aid. However, police said the attacker produced a small handgun and pointed at him.
According to police, the female victim released her pocketbook, which was said to contain assorted credit cards, a cell phone, an unknown amount of U.S. currency and personal items.
The suspects are described as 5'10'' each, wearing dark clothing. Two of them were said to be wearing hooded sweatshirts and the other had a doo rag on his head.
The female victim suffered a bloody nose, swelling to her face and lacerations to her knuckles but declined medical attention on the scene. The male victim was not injured.
