Last Wednesday, Jan. 9 some of us attended a scheduled hearing at the zoning board of appeals, on Nextel's request to install about 12 antennae on top of a building on the corner of Grand Street and Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont, making a total of 32 such antennae within a half mile radius. We think that's over-saturation. Not being well informed on this subject we asked for an adjournment and got it. The new hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Town Meeting Pavilion, Town Hall Plaza. We invite one and all to attend this hearing because we believe too much of a good thing can be bad for you. We are concerned for our children because two of the planned locations are too close to our schools, so we notified the district. The FCC says: "Don't worry, they are safe," but we know of the many times the Federal Government has been wrong and it was too late for some people.
