We grieve for the victims and families of the Sept. 11 tragedy. Our prayers are with them and all of the volunteers for their heroic measures.

Estelle Quednau, Ann Puglisi and Clara Cassano of the Woman's Club of Franklin Square welcome Bruce Beaver of Franklin Hospital Medical Center.

On Sept. 10 The Woman's Club met at the VFW Hall on Lincoln Road for our "Getting To Know You Luncheon." Chairperson Joan Burger and Mickey Hesselbach, Hospitality and their committee coordinated this luncheon and requested members to bring a covered dish. They were extremely generous and the food was delicious.

A business meeting was called to order, Pledge of Allegiance recited and America the Beautiful was sung. President read a poem Folks Like You, a lovely poem found in our old records from 1960. Corresponding Secretary could not attend the meeting so Estelle Quednau read the correspondence. Thank you notes from some of our scholarship winners and from the Long Island Federation of Women's clubs for our donation to their scholarship fund. Flowers were sent to Phyllis Bellero for her recent illness and we were glad to see her active at the club again. Flowers also sent to Lottie Nowomlynski who is recuperating at home. We miss her and hope to see her soon.

Ann Puglisi, 1st vice president is chairing the next meeting, our 54 anniversary. We will honor past presidents. Treasurer Emily VanDamm read her report and Mickey Hesselbach, financial secretary, was collecting membership dues. Historian reported that all the old records given her by Flo Carway had been put in order and ready to donate to the Historian Society for safe keeping. Get well prayers are still with Flo. Two birthdays were celebrated, Ann Puglisi and Sheila Taaffe. Meeting was adjourned.

After lunch Ann Puglisi introduced our guest speaker, Bruce Beaver, community relations director of the Franklin Hospital Medical Center. He gave us some background history about hospitals and passed out many interesting brochures on what is happening at the Medical Center. Also he distributed a flyer about the Family Health Fair taking place on Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be free screening such as: blood pressure, cholesterol, glaucoma and much more as well as information on other health related problems. This will be at the Orzac Geriatric Division. We were pleased with all this important information.
