At Long Last ... He's a Graduate
He was only in his junior year at St. Francis High School in Brooklyn. The year was 1944 and Edward Cress shifted his focus from his studies and from sports, since he excelled as a high school athlete, to what he felt was his duty. The United States had entered World War II and, in Cress' mind, high school would have to be put on hold.

New Street Signs for Cathedral Gardens
Armed with state grant money, courtesy of Assemblyman Tom Alfano, and private donations, contributed by local residents, the Cathedral Gardens section of West Hempstead will soon be sporting new street signs, which would replace the worn, missing, bent and deteriorated street signs which have lined the streets for decades.

Legislator Muscarella, Ciotti: Bike Helmets Save Lives
County Legislators Vincent Muscarella (R-West Hempstead and John J. Ciotti (R-North Valley Stream) are reminding residents that using bike helmets saves lives. "In Nassau County over 100 of our children are hospitalized each year because of bicycle injuries. Many more are treated in hospital emergency rooms and doctors' offices." said Legislator Muscarella. "In the United States, if everyone wore bicycle helmets, there wold be one less death every day and one less brain injury every four minutes."
