For all the talk of "being connected" and "staying in touch," one thing is clear: It takes a village to rebuild a village. Whatever course we set for the future, all hands are required on deck. In the game of community-building, while there are commentators aplenty, there should be no spectators. Players are the key to success in this game, and here in West Hempstead, the field is wide open. We invite you to break from the sidelines of community, and to join your neighbors on the playing field.
For every voice to be heard, for every opinion to be counted, for every issue to be brought to the fore, it takes every one of us - committed, engaged, involved as full participants in the life and times of our hometown. This is still what your Civic Association is all about.
The future is, indeed, in your hands. Be a part of it. Pick up an application to join or rejoin your Civic Association. There's probably a membership application sitting around the house somewhere, just waiting to be filled out (membership applications are also available at the library, or by calling WHCA voicemail at 733-0879). Volunteer as a Block Captain, as an Area Director, or for an assignment on one of the Association's many committees. Be the eyes and ears of the community. Keep us all connected and in touch.
There isn't anyone among us who does not have a vital stake in the future of our community. We are, each of us, West Hempsteaders, poised to make a difference, and working together for the common cause of community. Get in the game. Stay in the game. Not a single one of us can afford to "sit this one out."
