During the summer months, Town of Hempstead residents have the opportunity to enjoy all the beauty and excitement our township has to offer. You can find almost anything to do on land or at the seashore right here in the Town of Hempstead, all at low or no cost. On summer evenings, why not enjoy our free concerts. Through the Department of Parks and Recreation, an outstanding lineup of musical talent will be performing in our town's neighborhood parks.

These outdoor concerts will be held all summer long at a park facility near your home. The performances feature many talented entertainers, offering a musical program that appeals to all segments of our population. Unless otherwise noted, all shows begin at 8 p.m. and are free. Concertgoers should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets to ensure comfortable seating.

Sun., July 1 The Marvelettes, at Town Park, Point Lookout at 7:30 p.m. (rain date Sun., July 8), also 2001 veterans awards, fireworks.

Mon., July 9 Street Corner Society. The best of a cappella at Elmont Road Park, Elmont.

Tues., July 10 Guys and Dolls, with the Nassau Symphony Orchestra. Produced by Plaza Theatrical Productions at Echo Park, West Hempstead.

Wed., July 11 Dance to your favorite rock and roll songs with the party band Down and Dirty, at Levittown Veterans Memorial Park, Levittown.

Thurs., July 12 A romantic evening with Mary Mancini and Mario Tacca at Rath Park, Franklin Square.

Mon., July 16 North Shore Pops Orchestra, performing favorite show tunes, big band sounds, marches and light opera at Newbridge Road Park, Bellmore.

Tues., July 17 J. Frank Wilson's Cavaliers, led by Leo Lucas, perform golden oldies at Averill Boulevard Park, Elmont.

Wed., July 18 Isle of Klezbos mixes Klezmer instruments with Yiddish Theater standards at Rock Hall, Broadway, Lawrence.

Thurs., July 19 Paddy Noonan's Musical Taste of Ireland. Live music and dance at Hewlett Point Park, Bay Park.

Mon., July 23 Folk Rocker Kenn Morr and his band will perform music from his newest CD at Oceanside Park, Oceanside.

Tues., July 24 A Night of Reggae, Calypso and R & B performed by Twister at Dutch Broadway Park, Elmont.

Wed., July 25 John Kuse and The Excellents perform their hits You Baby You, Coney Island Baby and others at Rath Park, Franklin Square.

Thurs., July 26 The Best of Country with Road House at Levittown Veterans Memorial Park, Levittown.

Mon., July 30 Jazz legend Arvell Shaw and his Louis Armstrong Legacy Band will perform at Echo Park, West Hempstead.

Tues., July 31 Gospel Night with Lee Cloud and the Original Northernaires at Hendrickson Avenue Park, Elmont.

Wed., Aug. 1 Relive the girl group music of the '50s with Broadhollow performance, The Taffetas at Speno Park, East Meadow Avenue, East Meadow.

Thurs., Aug. 2 Ernest Mississippi Clay Blues Band performs at Averill Boulevard Park, Elmont.

Mon., Aug. 6 Linda Ilpenema and the Dixie Cats perform jazz straight from New Orleans at Oceanside Park, Oceanside.

Tues., Aug. 7 Linda Ciofalo and the Big Band Association perform your favorite dance band tunes at Rath Park, Franklin Square.

Wed., Aug. 8 So y Sombra performs a night of Flamenco, with live music and dance at Newbridge Road Park, Bellmore.

Thurs., Aug. 9 An Exciting Night of Brazilian and Latin Jazz, performed by Siora at Echo Park, West Hempstead.

Special Performance: Wed., Aug. 15, 8 - 10 p.m.

A Night of Swing with Bob Rotunda's Stardusters Big Band - demonstrations by Swing Dance Long Island at Levittown Hall, Hicksville. Tickets for Night of Swing are $2 in advance, $3 at the door if available. For further information call 292-9000, ext. 382.
