An exciting afternoon of fun 'n' games at beautiful Point Lookout Beach awaits all participants in the Town of Hempstead's annual beachfest entitled, "2001 A Beach Odyssey" on Friday afternoon, June 29, from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. Supervisor Rich Guardino invites youngsters ages 6 through 13 to join the space-age action at Town Park, Point Lookout, 1300 Lido Boulevard (off the Loop Parkway) in Point Lookout.
"With the sand and surf of Town Park offering a beautiful backdrop, the "Beachfest" kicks off the town's summer-long recreational programming," explains Guardino. "Once again the Department of Parks and Recreation has planned an exciting afternoon of games and entertainment for youngsters to enjoy."
In a program of thrill-a-minute action, the "Odyssey 2001 Beachfest" features a space-age theme complete with Water Survival Relay Race, a Moon Run Obstacle Course, Meteor Shower (water balloon volleyball), Shooting Stars contest (water balloon launch), Alien Face Painting and the chance to create a Martian Antenna Hat and your very own alien.
In addition to all the exciting games, recreation personnel will be on hand to promote the summer activities in various town parks. Youngsters and parents will have an opportunity to preview the summer events schedule at their local park.
All the Beachfest action takes place in the playground picnic area at Town Park, Point Lookout. Beachfest participants must use the park's main entrance on Lido Boulevard. The regular vehicle entrance fees at Town Park will be in effect, but actual event participation is free. For directions or day of the event information call Town Park at 431-3900.
