The Middle States Association's Commission on Secondary Schools has announced that Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School have been re-accredited for the 10-year period ending May 1, 2011. The decision to re-accredit Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School was made following a three-day visit to the schools in spring 2000 by a visiting team of educators from member schools of the Middle States Association appointed by the Commission on Secondary Education.
During the visits to Floral Park and H. Frank Carey, the middle states team interviewed teachers, students, and administrators, toured each school's facilities, studied the documents and evidence related to the school's work, and observed teaching and learning in classrooms.
To be re-accredited by the Commission on Secondary Schools, a school must meet the commission's standards for each major area of a school's work and activity. These areas include the school's educational program, learning media services, student services, student activities, facilities, school staff and administration, finance school leadership and governance, and assessment of learning.
"Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School are to be congratulated for having completed the rigorous and demanding re-accreditation review process successfully," said Dr. Joseph J. DeLucia, executive director of the Commission on Secondary Schools. "By meeting the standards of the commission, Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School have joined a growing number of schools in the middle states region that are committed to public accountability for their results. The commission encourages the entire Floral Park Memorial High School and H. Frank Carey High School communities to join in supporting their schools as they work to maintain and improve the quality of their programs over the next 10 years."
