At the April Board of Education meeting, the Elmont Lady Spartans basketball team was honored by the Sewanhaka Central High School District. The Lady Spartans, Nassau County Champions this past season, were recognized for their hard work and determination. Along with the team recognition, two members of the Lady Spartans were singled out for individual recognition. Senior Natasha Lyons and junior Tiffany Daley were each lauded for their achievements during the past basketball season.

During 2000-2001, Tiffany was selected as a member of the all-County All Star team by the Nassau County Girls Basketball Coaches Association. This prestigious honor is only given to 8 girls in the entire conference. Tiffany has earned this honor for the second year in a row. In addition, she was also selected to the All Tournament Team for both the Nassau County playoffs and the Freeport Lady Devils Holiday Tournament.

Tiffany played an integral role in the team's accomplishments this year. As a three-year member of the varsity team and team captain she led her team in scoring for the second consecutive season averaging almost 16 points per game. She set a school record by making 5 three pointers in a single game vs. Herricks High School during the season.

We are very proud of Tiffany's individual accomplishments this year. She has been able to accomplish this individual success while remaining humble and understanding that the team goals come first and foremost. She is an excellent example of what being a team player is all about.

During 2000-2001, Natasha led her team to the school's first ever Class "A" County Championship. Along the way Natasha accumulated several individual awards of recognition, the most prestigious of which was being one of only 4 players in the entire conference who were named to the All County All Star, Most Valuable Player of the Nassau County Playoffs and Most Valuable Player of the Freeport Lady Devils Holiday Tournament which her team also won for the first time. Natasha is currently being recruited by Queens College, Adelphi University, and C.W. Post who have all made scholarship offers.

Natasha came to Elmont in September of 1999 at the start of her junior year. Elmont was her third high school in as many years. In her two years at Elmont she has made tremendous improvements as a student, an athlete and most importantly as a young lady. Her work habits will undoubtedly lead her to success in the future.
