The reopening of the Franklin Square Public Library, originally scheduled for May 7, will be delayed due to construction problems. The library, which is building an extension to its facility, has been closed for construction since April 9 to install a new heading and air conditioning system, do extensive electrical and plumbing work, put up a new ceiling and other renovations. It is expected that this work will require several additional weeks. A new date for reopening will be announced as soon as possible.
Completion of the entire expansion is slated for early fall. Additional work scheduled in the next few months includes the erection of a new mezzanine inside the building, installing cabling for expanded computer and telephone systems, finishing the interior portions of the building, putting up new shelving and moving books to the new areas. When complete, the enlarged and modernized library will have an expanded children's area with its own story hour/craft room, a computer center in the new reference area, a quiet study room, a sunny new reading area and a larger meeting room for lectures, classes, films and other activities.
While the library is closed, our patrons may use their Franklin Square Library cards at other Nassau County public libraries, with some restrictions on the borrowing of audiovisual and new materials. Patrons may also access our web page at www.nassaulibrary.org/fsquare from their home computers to use online databases for reference and research.
The library regrets the inconvenience to our patrons and appreciates your patience during the construction of a larger and better facility for our community.
