The reopening of the Franklin Square Public Library, originally scheduled for May 7, will be delayed due to construction problems. The library, which is building an extension to its facility, has been closed for construction since April 9 to install a new heading and air conditioning system, do extensive electrical and plumbing work, put up a new ceiling and other renovations. It is expected that this work will require several additional weeks. A new date for reopening will be announced as soon as possible.
There has been some controversy as to whether the New York State standardized tests for school districts truly measure with accuracy a district's academic achievements. In Elmont, test scores cannot be taken at face value since Elmont faces challenges of educating an influx of students from other parts of the world.
