New York State Order Sons of Italy in America (OSIA), President Joseph Cangemi, in conjunction with the New York State Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc., announced its sponsorship of the Fourth Annual "Walk for Education," which will take place at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow at Parking Field 1 (off Merrick Avenue) on Saturday, May 5. Registration will open at 8:30 a.m. The walk will kick off at 10 a.m. for the three-mile route.
All proceeds from the Fourth Annual "Walk for Education" will be used to subsidize the Sons of Italy's annual statewide scholarship program. Each year at their state convention, they present awards to approximately 40 students, each of whom are recent graduates of high school or enrolled graduate students. They also present monetary awards to adults returning to college.
In addition, the New York Grand Lodge Foundation, Inc. distributes funds to Cooley's Anemia, Alzheimer's Foundation, Children's Inn at NIH, the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC), Birth Defects and many other charitable foundations.
Join the fun at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow on May 5. Whether you are a leisure stroller, exercise pacer or race walker, you can participate with others and enjoy the beautiful and varied three-mile route, keep fit and help raise funds for educational endeavors. The walk will not be canceled due to bad weather. The route will be shortened and you will be credited for the full distance.
Refreshments will be served before and after the walk. Entertainment will be provided.
