By Richard V. Guardino, Jr., Supervisor, Town of Hempstead
The Town of Hempstead is pleased to once again be hosting the New York Marine Trades Association In-Water Boat Show from April 26 through April 29. The show will be held at the Guy Lombardo Marina in Freeport. Having returned to our township last year after a long absence, the boat show proved to be an overwhelming success with over 6,000 people attending.
This show is exciting to us here in Hempstead Town, as it will help to encourage the development of the boating and marine accessories industry. Boating is a multi-million dollar industry that contributes to our robust local economy. This show will certainly provide a financial stimulus to our tourist industry as well.
Over 450 boats ranging in size from 6-foot inflatables to 60-foot yachts will be on display in water and on land. The show will also feature marine services and equipment, antique boat displays, educational paraphernalia, food and refreshments.
The Guy Lombardo Marina, one of the finest recreational marinas on Long Island's south shore, provides excellent facilities to the boating public. The marina has 252 seasonal and short-term slips for vessels ranging from 15 to 70 feet. Residents and tourists will enjoy dining and shopping in Freeport's revitalized waterfront area with its many fine restaurants and retail outlets.
I would like to extend an invitation to all our residents and visitors as well to enjoy this very special event planned for our township. The in-water boat show will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on each of the four days, and free parking will be available. Tickets are reasonably priced at just $8, senior citizen tickets are $6, and children 12 and under will be admitted free of charge.
