A 10-mile walkathon on Good Friday, April 13, will raise money for the Interfaith Nutrition Network (The INN) which operates 18 soup kitchens, four emergency shelters, and other housing programs for homeless individuals and families in Nassau and Suffolk. Participants in the walk, which will begin and end at Hofstra University, will seek sponsors to make tax-deductible contributions.
The walk will start at 9 a.m. from the Hofstra Student Center and end at 2 p.m. followed by an ecumenical Good Friday service sponsored by the Christian Campus Ministries on Long Island. Prayers will be said at 14 Stations of the Cross along the route. Father Joseph D'Angelo, Catholic Chaplain at Hofstra and Rev. Alan Bentz-Letts, Protestant chaplain, will lead the marchers.
"The distance of 10 miles should prove short enough for all to traverse, yet long enough to show our concern for poor and hungry Long Islanders," Jean Kelly, executive director of The INN, said.
Further information may be obtained by calling the Hofstra University Chaplain's office at 463-6920 or The Inn at 486-8506.
