After months of speculation on whether Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta would run for another term this November, Gulotta announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election. The Elmont Memorial Girls Varsity Basketball team fulfilled their preseason goal defeating Massapequa High School 71-58 in the Nassau County Girls Division 1A Championship games at Hofstra University. The Lady Spartans, under the leadership of head coach Greg Petrocelli and Assistant Coach James Hegman, cruised through their league schedule undefeated and entered the playoffs as the number one seed. The Varsity Boys Basketball Team at Elmont Memorial recently completed a very successful season, bowing out in the Nassau County Division 1A semifinals. The Spartans, coached by Dave Kingsley and Mike Graham, started the year strong and finished with a flourish, defeating a favored Long Beach team to win the Quarter Finals and meeting top-seeded Uniondale in the Semis.
