Eugene J. Schreck, a resident of Spring Hill, FL, and a former Village of Floral Park and library trustee, and fire department commissioner, died on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Brooksville Florida Hospice.
Mr. Schreck, born in Long Island City in 1935, attended Brooklyn Technical High School and graduated from the City College of New York (CCNY) in 1959, with a BEE Degree. He was licensed as a professional engineer shortly thereafter and went onto receive his MBA from Pace University in 1971.
Mr. Schreck worked for the New York City Transit Authority for 31 years and held the positions of administrative engineer and assistant division engineer of material inspections. He retired in 1989, lived in Pennsylvania for a period of time, and eventually moved to Spring Hill, FL in 1991, with his wife Lorraine (Peg).
While at CCNY, Mr. Schreck was an active member of the NU Chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and, after graduation, was instrumental in building and keeping together a strong alumni association. A DEKE reunion in his honor was held this past summer in Las Vegas. Mr. Schreck was a loving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, a loyal friend and fraternity brother, and beloved by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Mr. Schreck is survived by his wife Lorraine (Peg), sons Gene of San Carlos, CA, Steven of Quitman, GA, and grandchildren Sarah and Gene. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory can be made to the Brooksville Hospice, 1114, Chatman Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34601.
