The Hempstead/Franklin Square Elks Lodge held its annual basketball free throw shooting contest, open to all boys and girls ages 8-13, on Sunday, Jan. 14. The turnout of youth from the community for the event was much greater than anticipated, making it a terrific success. All the children had a great time, enjoying the contest and snacks provided by the Elks.

Congratulations to the six boys and girls who were winners in their respective age groups. They will be representing Hempstead/Franklin Square Lodge at the Southeast District Elks competition on Sunday, Feb. 11 at noon at New Hyde Park High School.

8-9-year-olds - Anthony DiLorenzo and Amalia DeBrosse

10-11-year-olds - Prince Clifford and Katie Sammon

12-13-year-olds - Brendan Cody and Tiffany Pirillo

District prizes will also be awarded for each age group and the district winners will advance to the New York State shoot-out. Subsequent winners will then advance to the Regional level and finally a National contest will be held. This annual program, open to the public, is sponsored each year by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. There is no cost or obligation for participating.
