  • NEWS: Alfano and Eve Announce Harriet Tubman Bill

    At a statewide press conference covered by major mass media and attended by state senators, the NAACP, Assemblymembers and members of the clergy, Assemblyman Tom Alfano and Deputy Assembly Speaker Arthur O. Eve announced the introduction of a joint bill to create a public holiday for Harriet Ross Tubman in New York State. Additionally, numerous organizations submitted petitions to the legislators totaling over 70,000 signatures in support of the holiday. FULL STORY

  • SPORTS: Elks Hold Basketball Hoop Shoot Contest

    The Hempstead/Franklin Square Elks Lodge held its annual basketball free throw shooting contest, open to all boys and girls ages 8-13, on Sunday, Jan. 14. The turnout of youth from the community for the event was much greater than anticipated, making it a terrific success. All the children had a great time, enjoying the contest and snacks provided by the Elks. FULL STORY
