Honoring New York State's veteran population, the State Division of Military and Naval Affairs (DMNA) has initiated a program to record the personal histories of New York State veterans who served in the military during World War II. The DMNA will use state-of-the-art digital video technology to conduct and record interviews with veterans as well as convert existing video and audio footage of interviews compiled by outside sources into a digitized database available for military historians and social history researchers. In the waning hours of 2000, Long Islanders experienced the most significant snowfall in four years. On Saturday, Dec. 30, snow blanketed most of Long Island, accumulating in excess of ten inches. Three days after the storm, in a different year - 2001 - Town of Hempstead residents are still dealing with the snow.
