The West Hempstead Street Festival will take place on Sunday, Oct. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nassau Boulevard, adjacent to Halls Pond Park. The Three Strohm Sisters Family Foundation, a foundation dedicated to raising money to fund cancer research, will hold their first fund raiser, their first annual dinner dance, on Friday, Oct. 20 at the New Hyde Park Inn. The three Strohm sisters who are from Elmont, Franklin Square and Valley Stream have all fought a battle against breast cancer and are determined to find a cure to fight the disease. Riesterer's Bakeries is celebrating their 70th anniversary in the family baking business. On Friday, Oct. 27, Riesterer's Bakery of West Hemsptead, Long Island's Oldest Family Bakery, will be hosting a gala of events. From 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., on the hour, guests are invited to a free, behind the scenes tour of the bakery. We invite you to see us at work, baking and decorating your favorite treats. And, of course, delicious baked goods will be offered to you. Those attending can sit outside under the big tent and enjoy festivities, including a tasty Octoberfest lunch and dinner specials as well as live entertainment. Kids will also have the opportunity to decorate a haunted cookie house with some delicious candies and cookies. Advent Lutheran Church will hold its Fall Fair on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair will have food, a flea market, used clothing, crafts, bric-a-brac, and many other interesting items.
