The Franklin Square Senior Center, located at 1182 Martha Place in Franklin Square, will hold its annual bazaar at its center on Thursday, Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday, Oct. 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Their annual bazaar is their only fundraiser of the year. It will feature items made by the seniors in their sewing, knitting, and arts and crafts workshops, as well as holiday items, baked goods, cakes, a white elephant table, and a variety of items donated by their members and local merchants. There will also be raffles for a variety of prizes and refreshments from the kitchen will be available.

The Franklin Square Senior Center is affiliated with the Town of Hempstead Department of Senior Enrichment.

The next meeting of the Water Authority of Western Nassau County Board of Directors will be held on Monday, Sept. 25 at 58 South Tyson Avenue in Floral Park, beginning at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.

Franklin Hospital Medical Center's Ostomy Club will meet at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 in the hospital's Dr. Alvin Greenberg Conference Center.

Guest speaker at the meeting will be Franklin's Nursing Department member Pat Arana, R.N., who will lead an informal discussion called "Come and Talk!"

Additional information about the monthly meetings of this support group for family members and interested individuals may be secured by contacting Ms. Arana, the hospital's Wound Care Manager, at 256-6024.

The Confraternity of Christian Mothers of St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in Franklin Square is having their Supermarket Bingo on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the church, located at 33 New Hyde Park Road. Admission is $5, which includes one board, coffee and cake. For tickets, call 354-3096.

The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead (Conservative) is sponsoring a special program for individuals or families who have never attended High Holiday services at the Synagogue. For a limited time, non-members will be able to purchase High Holiday tickets at a reduced price of $50 per seat. Babysitting and home hospitality are available upon request.

The Jewish Community Center of West Hempstead hopes to reach out to people who are not yet affiliated with the synagogue, while at the same time, enabling them to attend services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. At the conclusion of services, guests will be able to meet with the Rabbi, the Cantor and the lay leadership of the Synagogue.

The JCC of West Hempstead offers a wide variety of religious, social and cultural activities including the Sukkot Dinner and Shabbat Programming. Its spiritual leader, Rabbi Howard Stecker, has instituted a variety of study programs as well as a Lunch and Learn Program. Cantor Todd Rosner has worked very closely with Bar and Bat Mitzvah students. The major arms of the synagogue also sponsor a variety of programs throughout the year.

The Elmont Jewish Center, located at 500 Elmont Road, will hold Slichot Services to usher in the Jewish New Year on Saturday, Sept. 23. The services will follow a special program, which begins at 10 p.m.

As is customary each year prior to the Slichot Service, the Elmont Jewish Center will host a speaker from the Consulate General of New York. This year the speaker will be Ms. Batsheva Genut, currently the Director of Electronic Media at the Consulate General of Israel in New York, who will issue an update on Israel. Before joining the Consulate, Ms. Genut was a senior research analyst at the Committee for Accurancy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA).

Ms. Genut holds a juris doctorate from Fordham University where she served as managing editor of the Fordham International Law Journal. She received a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Barnard College of Columbia University. She was also a student of international relations and international law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Her published works include Competing Visions of the Jewish State: Promoting and Protecting Freedom of Religion in Israel.
