It's amazing but true: a tennis ball struck on Long Island can have a positive impact upon hungry children around the world. For the past 20 years, tennis players on Long Island have been serving up winners in the battle against world hunger. Since the summer of 1981, Stop World Hunger's tennis programs have raised more than $60,000 to feed hungry children. All funds are forwarded to Catholic Relief Services and are used where the need is greatest regardless of race, religion, and/or nationality.
In its continuing efforts to combat this holocaust of hunger which claims 10 million lives each year, Stop World Hunger, Inc. is pleased to invite Long Island's recreational tennis players to participate in this year's Fall Tennis Tournament. It's an opportunity to play some tennis, make new friends, improve your game, and help a great cause.
Based upon registration, divisions are set up according to the ability levels and geographic locations of the players. The tournament format consists of round robin, no elimination play. Matches are scheduled at mutually convenient times at various sites around Long Island. Trophies are presented to the winners in each division.
The cost for registration is $6 for singles and $10 for doubles. Events consist of men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles, and women's doubles.
The deadline for registration is Tuesday, Sept. 12. All matches are to be played between Sept. 23 - Nov. 26.
