Gateway Youth Outreach Secures State Grant for $125,000
In a joint statement today, Gateway Youth Outreach and its Director Pat Boyle and State Assemblyman Thomas Alfano announced that Gateway Youth Outreach secured a state grant for $125,000 for youth programs in the community. The grant comes on the heels of other state funding and private resources that have assisted the youth organization during very difficult fiscal times for the County of Nassau.
Target Pests, Not People" Say Breast Cancer Activists
Like prophets crying in the wilderness, metropolitan breast cancer activists, called a press conference on July 31 at the Town of North Hempstead to implore leaders and news media to alert the general public that wide-spread aerial spraying poses more health risks than protection from the small number of mosquitoes bearing the West Nile virus. Patti Wood, ecology commissioner for the Town of North Hempstead, praised Nassau County Executive Thomas Gulotta, and Commissioner of Health, Dr. Gaffney, for their "courage in resisting the incredible pressure" that has been exerted on them by New York City's Mayor Rudolph Giuliani to engage in massive spraying programs.
Local Student Earns the Bronze Medal at Empire State Games
The West Hempstead High School Athletic Department announced that ninth-grade Wrestler Nick Harris has brought home the Bronze medal from the Empire State Games.
