By Clara Cassano, President
The installation of The Woman's Club of Franklin Square took place at Carmela's Restaurant on June 12. The setting was beautiful in the banquet hall. The luncheon was well attended and the food was delicious. Eleanor Kaupp made all the arrangements, however, she could not attend so Ruth Barber very efficiently took over. Thank you Ruth.
The president called the meeting order, members said the Pledge of Allegiance and Norma Snedeker read the invocation. Luncheon was served and then a short business meeting followed. As dessert and coffee was served, Clara Cassano reported she attended the ground-breaking ceremony at the library. It was very impressive. We were also very proud that our woman's club was well represented at the Memorial Day Parade. Lea Olynciw presented our yearly donation to Family and Children's Services as they are community dedicated workers. Lea also presented our Woman's Club Education Memorial Award along with a check to Randall Brutus at the Sewanhaka High School Awards Assembly. Edith Grant made our presentation at the H. Frank Carey High School to Marissa Caputo. The winners of our Education Memorial Award for the elementary schools are as follows: Washington Street School, Mitaley Patel - Polk Street School, Melissa De'Angelis - John Street School, Kristen Lane - St. Catherine of Sienna, James O'Connell. We are proud of our students and schools in Franklin Square.
Norma Snedeker, installation officer of the day then proceeded to relieve our board members of their present duties and install the board for year 2000-2001. Each officer was read their duties and presented with a beautiful flower. Slate of officers is as follows: President, Clara Cassano; 1st Vice President, Ann Puglisi; 2nd Vice President, Eleanor Kaupp; Recording Secretary, Jo Schlosser, Corresponding Secretary, Norma Snedeker, Treasurer, Emily VanDamm; Financial Secretary, Mickey Hesselbach; Honorary Historian, Flo Carway. Thank you Norma. She did a fine job and we will all serve to the best of our ability.
Estele Quednau volunteered to chair our Sept. 11 meeting our "Getting to Know You Luncheon." She was already getting together a list of dishes that members will bring to this luncheon. Thank you Estele.
Thank you my board members for your loyalty all year, all chairpersons, volunteers and members. You people all make this club happen.
