Now that summer is here, it's obvious to see why Long Island has been declared one of the nation's most desirable areas in which to live. In neighborhoods throughout Hempstead Town, tree-lined streets wind past the manicured lawns and neat homes that are the hallmark of the suburban way of life our residents enjoy.

An important aspect of life in Hempstead Town is highlighted by the outstanding municipal services provided by local government. Hempstead residents are assured of regular road maintenance, street cleaning, and sanitation collection, all of which greatly enhance the quality of life we enjoy.

Maintaining the aesthetics of Hempstead Town, America's largest township, is a formidable task, and one that is performed admirably by town personnel. It is necessary however, to enlist the cooperation of the town's citizenry in order to complete the job.

It is the responsibility of all town residents to observe local sanitation regulations. Part of the Hempstead Town Code states that no refuse shall be placed for collection before 7 p.m. on the day prior to its collection. It also requires that empty receptacles be removed from the curb area within three hours after collection.

The town code also states that in areas where curb service is provided, refuse containers must be placed for collection in a visible and accessible area between the sidewalk line and the curbline immediately in front of the premises.

The purchase of your home represents a major investment. It is one that warrants protecting. It is in the best interests of all homeowners to preserve the suburban qualities that make Hempstead Town so desirable to both homeowners and financiers.

I would like to remind homeowners that it is everyone's responsibility to maintain the appearance of their neighborhood. By following the guidelines of the town code, you can take an active role in protecting your investment and our quality of life.
