Bryan Baebler led the boys volleyball team to a three-game sweep of Hicksville. Matt Yakstis and Rudy Montenora powered kills from the defense and setting of Lorenzo Melecio, while Mike Tortorici and Indrees Hassanali were all over the floor defensively. The return of Ronny Cohen balanced out the offense. The boys volleyball team swept Lawrence in three games on Friday. Bryan Baebler, Matt Yakstis and Lorenzo Melecio were outstanding. The Carey varsity girls softball team defeated Wheatley 4-3 to improve their record to 11-5. Pamela Lombardi's sacrificed hit in the bottom of the sixth drove in the winning run. Lizzy Eymold played an exceptional defensive game completing two unassisted double plays. The Carey varsity boys lacrosse team defeated Hewlett by a score of 8-4 in a very important league game. The team was tremendous on defense and was led by Lou Aragon who shut down Hewlett's top scorer. Mike Muskin recorded 15 saves for the Seahawks. Offensively, the team was led by Jay Shaw, Ken Costello, Matt Sangirardi and Eoin Costello. The JV baseball team defeated Floral Park by the score of 10-9. Derek Reed went the distance and struck out seven for the wing and John Kowalsky went 3 for 4 with two triples and four RBI's. Also knocking in runs were Russell Manalastas, Chris Charnetsky and Dan Dempsey. The Carey girls' track team traveled to JFK/Bellmore and competed against Lawrence, Elmont, and JFK. Although the girls lost to these teams, some terrific performances were recorded. Joanna Sesack took fourth place in both the shot and discus. Yli Roman took third in the 100 hurdles and second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 78.4 which is a personal best. Jen O'Driscoll also had a personal best in the 800 with a time of 2 minutes 46 seconds. Keeping her streak of not losing a discus event, Alexis Whyte took first with a throw of 116 ft. 9 inches. Not to be outdone, sensational sophomore Lauren Moran broke the school record in the high jump with a leap of 4 ft. 10 inches. The Carey girls track team recently competed in two Invitational track meets. Several notable performances were recorded. In the Derrick Atkins meet, Yleana Roman lowered her record in the 100 hurdles recording a 16.9 in this event. Winning a fifth place medal was Lauren Moran with a high jump of 4'6". Rounding out the scoring was Alexis Whyte, scoring in two events. Alexis took fifth place in the shot put and captured the first place trophy in the discus with a throw of 103' 4". Finally, Captain Alexis Whyte kept her big meet streak of placing in two events alive by getting medals in both the shot and discus. Alexis took third in the shot, throwing 30' 3 1/4". In the discus Alexis threw a season best 119' 5" to take two consecutive discus titles.

In the last four games the Carey junior high boys lacrosse team has a record of 1-2-1. However, this record is not a true indication of how talented this team is or how well they have played together during this very tough four game stretch.

Seventh grader Matthew Michos leads the entire team in scoring with eight points, including six goals and two assists. Seventh grader Mike Tylutki follows a very close second with six total points and six ground balls. Other strong performances have also been recorded by 7th graders Daniel Arce, Patrick Mione and Christopher Suppa, each having three points. Eighth grader and captain, T.J. Lopez leads the team in ground balls with 19 and has three points to his credit. Eighth grade midfielders Jimmy Feaster and Travis Salkey continue to be dominate forces on offense, each having three points. A strong team defense is anchored with the commanding play of 7th graders, Barry Costello and Mike Kempel as well as 8th grader, Daniel Spitaliere and 9th grader, Matthew Talt. Perhaps, the most surprising play on the field has come from 7th grade standout goalie, Michael Ferguson. In his first three games at his new position Michael has recorded 35 saves and helps to keep the team in every game.

The Carey Junior High girls lacrosse team beat Sewanhaka by a score of 10-3. Awesome goals by Christine Bernet, Emily Hordern (three goals), Tracy Ferrar, Lauren Dooley, Christina Morales (two goals), Kellyanne Coro ( goals).
