Officials of the Sewanhaka Central High School District have announced that the 2000 Summer School Program will be held this year from July 5 through Aug. 15, with Regents testing on Aug. 16 and 17. All 9th through 12th academic, Regents and RCT review, physical education and special education classes will be offered at Sewanhaka High School, located at 500 Tulip Avenue, Floral Park. Driver Education will take place at Elmont Memorial High School, 555 Ridge Road, Elmont. All academic courses and special education classes for students in grades seven and eight will be held at Elmont Memorial High School.
Except for Driver Education, which is part of Continuing Education and requires a $200 fee, the program is open without cost to all Sewanhaka Central High School District students and resident students who attend private and parochial schools. Also, registration in all courses is subject to availability. All summer school participants must pay a $3 registration fee. Students who are not enrolled in a summer school course, but who register for a Regents Review class and exam, must pay a $5 fee for the grading of the exam. Persons interested in summer school should note the following information:
* The Academic Program includes courses in English, Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, Foreign Languages, Health, and Physical Education. All courses are only available to district residents.
* Regents review courses, offered from Aug. 2 through Aug. 15, are recommended for students taking the August Regents Exams but do not give academic credit.
* RCT review courses, offered from Aug. 7 through Aug. 15, confer no credit. These courses are required of students who wish to take the RCT exams.
* Driver Education at Elmont Memorial High School, under the auspices of Continuing Education, is offered from June 29 through Aug. 15. It confers no credit and requires payment of a $200 fee. Students must be 16 years of age by June 29.
* Registration for all summer school courses is at Sewanhaka High School, 500 Tulip Avenue, Floral Park.
Registration for summer school will take place in Sewanhaka High School only on the following days and times:
Tuesday, June27, 8:30 to 11 a.m. - Students in grades 11 and 12 during the 1999-00 school year.
12:30 to 2 p.m. - Students in grade 10 during the 1999/00 school year.
Wednesday, June 28, 8:30 to 11 a.m. - Students in grades 7 and 8 during the 1999/00 school year.
12:30 to 2 p.m.- Students in grade 9 during the 1999/00 school year.
There is a $3 registration fee.
Registration for Regents and RCT courses will be on June 27 and June 28.
* Regents examinations and review classes - These are offered only to students who have passed the Regents course and have failed only the Regents exam.
* RCT examinations and review classes.
* Regents and RCT tests require a $5 fee.
