Are you interested in being part of Long Island's most prestigious race, the 2000 Canon Long Island Marathon? The April 27 deadline to sign up for this exciting event is rapidly approaching.
The Marathon, set for Sunday, May 7, celebrates its 28th consecutive running in 2000 and attracts over 10,000 amateur athletes each year. The race begins and ends in the spacious, world renowned facilities at Eisenhower Park, and allows runners to decide after the starting gun sounds whether they wish to attempt the full 26.2 miles or opt for the half marathon of 13.1 miles. Participants will display their athletic skills on a race course which winds through residential and business districts and along Wantagh State Parkway.
Runners are encouraged to attend the health, fitness and running exposition held in conjunction with runners' check-in at the Eisenhower Park Swimming and Diving Center scheduled for May 4, 5 and 6.
All registrants will receive a generous race package consisting of a T-shirt, windshirt ad other mementos.
The late registration fee of $28 is in effect until April 27 at 4:30 p.m. After that time additional applications will not be accepted. Regardless of deadlines, registration will cease when a capacity field of 12,000 runners is reached.
To receive an application, send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Canon LI Marathon, Sports Unit, Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, NY 11554, or call 572-0248/9 weekdays during business hours.
