Dr. Eugene Jennings Jr., 85, formerly of West Hempstead, died on Jan. 15, 2000. Born in the Bronx, he served as a lieutenant in the the US Navy during WWII in the South Pacific aboard the destroyer John W. Weeks. He graduated from Columbia University and Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Jennings had his medical practice in West Hempstead for 27 years. He was an All-American Masters Swimmer, part of the US Masters Swimming Organization, the highest honor that can be achieved from the organization. He enjoyed sailing and was a member of the St. Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida. He was a staff member at the Barfont Hospital and Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg. Dr. Jennings is survived by his wife, Miriam; his children, Eugene Thomas, Mimsie Arminstead and Leslie Ann Whitiak; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Turner, of Elmont, died on Jan. 19, 2000. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus Alfred E.Smith Council, Elmont. Husband of the late Charlotte.
