The Winter Recreation Program is in full swing at Valley Steam Central, North and South High Schools and Memorial Junior High, where the gyms are open on weekends (but not during school vacations) for the use of Valley Stream High School District students. Co-ed recreational activities such as basketball, volleyball, weight training and table games are the popular choices for exercising and socializing. At Central High School the Winter Rec Program runs from September through May from 6-9 p.m. on Friday nights in the fall and spring (March 3 through May), and on Saturday nights during winter basketball season (December 4 through Feb. 12). At North High School under Athletic Director Herb May, the Winter Rec Program scheduled from October to May runs from 6-10 p.m. on Fridays and 12-5 p.n. on Saturdays, except when conflicts arise with school dances, sports events and holidays. South High School's Program runs every Friday and Saturday night from 6-9 p.m. September to June, except on evenings when games, practices, concerts or dances are scheduled.
