The Elmont East End Civic Club officers, the club's executive board, and its members want to wish everyone much joy, health and happiness for the new year and the new millennium.
Now that we are in the new millennium free of any major glitches, and the world did not come to an end as some people predicted, we can all look ahead again to making Elmont an even better place to live and work in.
The place to come to with your friends and neighbors to make Elmont a better place to live and work in is a meeting of your civic group.
The Elmont East End Civic Club's next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Averill Park Community Room, which is located at Schenck Blvd. and Drew Avenue (two blocks east of Covert Avenue).
The guest speaker for the evening will be a representative from sanitary district #6 who will apprise us of the various collections they make and their responsibility to our community. Following the guest speaker's presentation, residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and apprise him of conditions in our community that concern us. This is another example of how the club works for the good of the community and for all the people who live here.
The members of the club hope that you will attend this very informative meeting and to meet your neighbors with common concerns. If you are not already a member of the club, why not start the new millennium by becoming a member of a club that has been working to improve the quality of life for all Elmont residents for over 50 years. Dues in the club is $12 per year, per family.
Membership in the club is open to all residents living within its boundaries. As a member of the club, you can become an asset in furthering the betterment of our community, becoming an informed resident by learning what is happening in our town, in our schools, and in our libraries.
The club extends an open invitation to all of our elected and appointed officials and members of the judiciary to attend any and all its meetings.
By sharing your concerns with your civic club, you can make a difference in getting action from our elected and appointed leaders. In unity we have strength. By becoming a member of your civic club, you strengthen the effectiveness of our efforts to make Elmont an even better place to live in.
The club extends a warm and hearty welcome to new members Eleanor and Percy Royston.
The club is currently conducting its annual membership drive and cordially invites all residents within its boundaries to become members. The club was established in 1946 and it has been active in furthering the improvement of our community for over 50 years. By becoming a member of your civic club, you learn first hand what is going on in our community, our schools, and our library.
The club normally meets the first Tuesday of every month except for the months of July and August. Refreshments are served at the conclusion of every meeting.
