Anti-Defamation League Grades Alfano an
Assemblyman Thomas Alfano was recognized by the New York Regional Office of the Anti-Defamation League in their review of state legislators for their work and advocacy on hate crimes and discrimination. Alfano was given an "A" for his votes and advocacy on the powerful Assembly Codes Committee.

Legislature Majority Secures Top Financial Management Experts
Presiding Officer Judy Jacobs (D-Woodbury) and the majority of the Nassau County Legislature announced this week the appointment of Mark D. Young to the position of director of finance and budgeting and Arimax Financial Advisors, as chief financial advisors to the legislature. Arimax will serve as consultants in developing a short and long-term financial recovery plan for the county.

EMHS Spartans Basketball Team Captures Holiday Tournament
Over the recent holiday, the Elmont Memorial High School Boy's Basketball team competed in the Haggerty Memorial Basketball Tournament held in Chaminade High School. Elmont has competed in this tournament on numerous occasions along with Manhasset, Garden City and the host, Chaminade. This four team lineup consists of "power house" type basketball programs, as many basketball championships hang in each school's respective gymnasiums.

High School Gyms Open on Weekends for Winter Rec
The Winter Recreation Program is in full swing at Valley Steam Central, North and South High Schools and Memorial Junior High, where the gyms are open on weekends (but not during school vacations) for the use of Valley Stream High School District students. Co-ed recreational activities such as basketball, volleyball, weight training and table games are the popular choices for exercising and socializing.
