On behalf of General David M. Mize, commander, United States Marine Forces Reserve, and the entire US Marine Corps, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped make the 1999 Toys for Tots Campaign a tremendous success. The Toys for Tots Program has been in operation since 1947 and each year, generous and thoughtful citizens like yourselves have given unselfishly of your time and resources in making a difference in the lives of the less fortunate children of our communities. As we bid farewell to one millennium and stand on the threshold of the next, we are optimistic of the continued support that all of you will provide for the children of Long Island.
The Marine Corps has always believed that "Every child deserves a little Christmas," and it is evident that this belief is shared by the many businesses and individuals who were paramount in the success of the program. Your tireless efforts were overwhelming and the United States Marine Corps is extremely grateful for your magnanimity and support. This year's Toys for Tots Program was a success because of you. While all Marines everywhere appreciate your generosity, it is the needy children who have directly benefited from your benevolence. They have been given the opportunity to see that someone cares, that they have not been forgotten at Christmas time. That someone is you and the thousands like you who have joined forces with local Marines in the community to meet the Christmas mission of the Reserves. We thank you for your participation, not just this year but every year, and we look forward to working together with you again in the new millennium the 2000 Holiday Season!
