The Elmont East End Civic Club officers, the club's board and its members all hope you are enjoying this holiday season. They all look forward to greeting you and your neighbors at their upcoming meeting, the first of the new millennium on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 7:30 p.m. We hope that one of your unbreakable new millennium resolutions will be to attend your civic meetings on a regular basis.

The club holds its monthly meetings in the Averill Park Community Room, which is located at Schenck Blvd. and Drew Avenue (two blocks east of Covert Avenue).

The guest speaker for the evening will be Police Inspector William McHale of the Nassau County 5th Police Precinct. At this meeting, residents will get to meet the commanding officer of our local police precinct and to find out firsthand how our police officers are fighting crime and protecting us. Following his presentation, residents will have the opportunity to ask him questions and apprise him of conditions in our community that they feel need police action. This is another example of how the club works for the good of the community and all the people who live here.

If you are not already a member of the club, why not start the new millennium by becoming a member of a club that has been working to improve the quality of life for all Elmont residents for over 50 years.

Membership in the club is open to all residents living within its boundaries. As a member of the club, you can become an asset in furthering the betterment of our community, becoming an informed resident by learning what is happening in our town, in our schools, and in our libraries.

The club extends an open invitation to all of our elected and appointed officials and members of the judiciary to attend any and all of our meetings.

The club extends a warm and hearty welcome to the following new members: Linda and Robert O'Brian and Katherine and Anthony Falco.

The club also wants to remind all homeowners that the deadline for filing for the School Tax Relief Program (STAR Program) in Nassau County is Dec. 31. If you haven't as yet filed your STAR Exemption Form with the Nassau County Department of Assessments, you can pick one up there on the fourth floor of 240 Old Country Road.

The club is currently conducting its Annual Membership Drive and cordially invites all residents within its boundaries to become members. The club was established in 1946 and it has been active in furthering the improvement of our community for over 50 years. By becoming a member of your Civic Club, you learn firsthand what is going on in our community, our schools and our library.

The club normally meets the first Tuesday of every month except for the month of July and August. The club's dues are $12 per year, per family. Refreshments are served at the conclusion of every meeting.

The Elmont East End Civic Club wants to wish all its friends and neighbors a healthy and happy new millennium.
